Herbalife Family Foundation Establishes First Casa Herbalife Program in Japan

LOS ANGELES, Dec 07, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF) established its first Casa Herbalife program in Japan, designed to bring good nutrition to children, at the Kobe Jitsugyo Gakuin (KJG). At the same time, the HFF donated to the Hyogo Prefecture to support its public grants for children's institutions.

Through the Casa Herbalife program, HFF provides funds to existing organizations serving children to improve nutrition-related functions such as upgrading kitchens, appliances or the ability to provide healthier foods. The Casa Herbalife will enable KJG to improve kitchen facilities and appliances for the 40 children who currently live there.

Michael O. Johnson, CEO of Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF), visited Ryouji Kaneko, director of KJG, and the children at the institution for a ceremony and presented a plaque and a check for 1 million JPY for the coming year as part of a three-year support program. Children welcomed HFF representatives by singing a welcome song and performing a traditional Japanese dance. Holiday presents were also given to the children as part of the festivities.

Ryouji Kaneko expressed his gratitude by saying, "The donation offer came at a perfect time as government funds have been cut little by little over the past few years. Our building, which was built 35 years ago, is certainly starting to get old and so are the kitchen facilities. We will be able to improve the facilities to provide better nutrition-related functions to our children."

Kobe Jitsugyo Gakuin was established in 1912 and has fostered children, ranging in age from 2 to 18, who cannot live at home with their own families for various reasons, and has supported the efforts of the children to become more self-reliant.

There are now seven Casa Herbalife programs established around the world. Others include the original orphanage the HFF built in Brazil from which the program gets its name; A Place Called Home in South Central, Los Angeles; Atlanta Children's Shelter; Associacao Case Da Crianca De Santos in Brazil; Aga Children's Home in Budapest, Hungary; and the Singapore Children's Society. HFF will continue to roll out this program worldwide.

HFF also made a donation of 5 million JPY to Hyogo Prefecture. The donation will be allocated to existing children's programs including children's self-reliance support institutions, infant homes, and short-term treatment institutions for mentally-disturbed children, located in Hyogo Prefecture.

HFF is supported by Herbalife and its independent distributors and employees. Since its inception in 1994, HFF has donated over $6.5 million in over 25 countries around the world to support children in need, as well as assist victims of disasters.
