HFF welcomes two additional charities to the Casa Herbalife family
The Herbalife Family Foundation has established a new Casa Herbalife program in Bucharest, Romania, and expanded its presence in Brazil by establishing a fourth program in São Paulo.
Working with the General Direction of Social Assistance & Child Protection in Bucharest, the initial grant will help support the organization's nutrition programs by providing good nutrition to children who are under its care. The center to be supported through this grant, Centrul de Plasament in regim de urgenta Ciresarii I, was
established in 1998, and cares for over 45 children who are orphans or have been abandoned by their parents.
The Casa Herbalife program in São Paulo was launched with Associação Beneficente Betsaida (Bethsaida Benevolent Association), which has a capacity for up to 20 low-income and at-risk children and teenagers. The
shelter is a resource used to meet the basic needs for the development of children in accordance with Brazil's Statute of Children and Adolescence. Through this partnership, HFF will be responsible for supporting the promotion of nutrition and physical activity for the children and teenagers living in the shelter.
In Brazil, São Paulo becomes the fourth Casa Herbalife program location in the country, while in Romania, this is the 19th Casa Herbalife program to open in Herbalife's EMEA region, and the 52nd program worldwide. The Herbalife Family Foundation expanded its Casa Herbalife programs to 50 locations worldwide with the addition of two new program locations in Mexico.
Founded in 2003 and based in Tijuana, in the state of Baja California, Fundación Castro-Limón, A. C. was established to provide comprehensive services and treatment to low income children diagnosed with cancer. The organization is committed to offering these children and their families a "hope for life" through a variety of psychological and spiritual resources. The HFF grant will support a program that will help bring better nutrition to these children. The organization currently services 60 children and has served over 500 children to date.
The second program recently funded by HFF is Centro Nutricional Celaya in the state of Guanajuato, which began as a Rotary Club project in 1990. The center's mission is to improve the nutritional needs and
eating conditions of impoverished children by preventing physical deficiencies and supporting healthy development through good nutrition. The HFF grant will support the organization's ongoing efforts in the
areas of malnutrition prevention and diagnosis, and nutrition rehabilitation, as well as the "Growing Healthy" program.
Following the initial grant, local Herbalife independent distributors and employees will continue supporting the program through volunteerism and fundraising. The Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF) announced the opening of a Casa Herbalife program in Ecuador's capital city of Quito. The initial grant will support the 2010 food budget for Fundación Sinsoluka.
Fundación Sinsoluka was founded over 15 years ago to help get homeless children and teens off the streets and out of a cycle of drug abuse and addiction. The organization's name expresses its mission - "sin" meaning
without and "soluka," the name of the readily-available, highly-addictive glue that is sniffed by many homeless children in Quito.
Sinsoluka provides a variety of social services that include counseling, domestic violence prevention, substance abuse treatment, tutoring, job readiness training, and nutrition education to more than 300 participants - children, homeless teens/young adults, and their respective family members.
Aside from a paid staffer who prepares meals, the organization functions entirely with unpaid volunteers, including Founder Dr. Mario Alberto Piedra, and has been operating out of a house that it has outgrown in
recent years. In an unplanned and emotionally-charged announcement at an Herbalife event last weekend in Quito, Piedra learned that Herbalife independent Distributors, with additional support from HFF, had raised
enough money to purchase a new, larger home to house the organization, in addition to the HFF nutrition grant.
