On January 12, a series of earthquakes ranging from magnitude 6.5 to 7.3 struck Haiti in a highly populated area near Port-au-Prince. Widespread damage, collapsed buildings, and an unprecedented number of casualties have been reported. Approximately 3 million people have been affected by this disaster. Loss of power, communications, and access to health care and other necessities continue to challenge the people of Haiti as rescue workers assist survivors and help displaced families to find shelter.
